Burns is born in Alloway
1766
He moved to Mount Oliphant Farm, near Tarbolton to work when he was only seven.
1781
He temporarily moved to Irvine to become a flax-dresser, but moved back to the farm because there was a fire in the place where he was working
1784
He stayed near Tarbolton until his fathers death.
1784
He befriended Captain Richard Brown, who encouraged him to be a poet
1784
He moved to a farm in Mauchline, and met Jean Armour. He continued to be a poet.
1786
He set out for Edinburgh to get his first poem published.
1788
He met back up with Jean and they bought a farm in Dumfriesshire.
1788
He married Jean and had 9 children.

After giving up his farm, he retired to Dumfries to become a poet.
1796
Burns dies in Dumfries, having written 688 poems.
